I just finished a 4-day fast.

It sucked!

**Why do I fast?**

1. **Health**

It would be impossible to detail the many benefits. Just know there is no cocktail of medications or supplements that can induce anything close to the benefits of a 4-5 day fast.

2. **Focus**

The clarity of mind that fasting brings is unmatched by anything else I have experienced. It takes a few days before this benefit kicks in as your body **painfully** transitions into ketosis, but once there, it’s amazing!

3. **Impulse Control**

Do you have a hard time not giving into your impulses? You need to train. Fasting is your training, and as you fight your most basic impulse to eat when hungry, you will find that it serves as cross-training for your other impulses.

4. **Emotional Discipline**

When I fast, I make a concerted effort **not** to use it as an **excuse** to be moody, impatient, or “hangry”. Exercising that muscle in extreme hunger makes maintaining emotional control easy under other circumstances.
